As featured in Forbes, this capitvating creation is the vision of New York Doughnut Chef Björn Delacruz. 24-karat gold-leafed doughnuts are sold for £100 apiece in Manila Social Club - Björn Delacruz's restuarant located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Although it looks extremely ravishing on the outside, as the saying goes, It's what's on the inside that counts. The doughnut itself is made from pâte à choux, a pastry dough made from purple ube flour. The flour derives from a purple yam sourced from Philippines where Delacruz was born.
After the doughnuts have been fried they are then filled with a Cristal jelly and a purple ube moose like filling. Saving the best to last, to serve, the doughnuts are finally glazed and covered in 24-karat gold-leafs.
