I've been a vegetarian for just over a year now and I feel like I get the same reactions from people everytime, and I find them hilarious.
I'm a african girl so I often get the:
"wait how can you be a vegetarian, like so you don't eat no meat? no chicken? nahhhh how can you not eat meat, not even chicken? nahhhh...
I'm a thick girl so people automatically assume i'm doing it as some sort of weightloss hack:
"Is it working? so how much weight have you lost?"
Out of pure confusion, I get the:
"but whyyyyy thoughhhhhhh"
I was raised eating meat and clearly I like food, so people can't seem to wrap their minds around the fact that I am currently a vegetarian.
Why am I vegetarian?
1. I'm not doing it for weightloss, i'm not doing it for attention - I'm doing it because I feel like my body needed a break from meat - i've been eating meat for 21 years of my life i'm sure my body won't mind.
2. I also like challenging myself whether it's intermittent fasting or cutting out meat, dairy, carbs or sugar for a while. It teaches me a self discipline which I enjoy and additonally I can see how my body reacts to change: clear skin, more energy etc.
Will I ever eat meat again?
It sounds cliche but I believe that it is important to listen to your body.I can't say how long this is going to last, but as of now I can say that I do not miss chicken at all which is very surprising, even to me! I was never a big red meat eater so I don't miss that at all. However fish! seafooood! I miss you so much. I can see myself going back to seafood, but right now i'm focused on learning new vegetarian receipes and keeping my meals fresh, healthy and most importantly tasty!
Contrary to popular belief you can be a vegetarian and still be unhealthy.
Junk food is not excempt from this diet. In the beginning I can admit that I wasn't making the best meal choices - I guess I was overcompensating for the lack of meat but I understand that it's is a journey, you learn and it get's much easier along the way.
